The weather was fantastic and so was the fishing.
The temperatures were in the mid 90's with gentle breezes and the catfish cooperated as never before. The grand prize winning fish weighed slightly over 32½ pounds which is a new derby record as far as I know. The Clear Lake record for channel catfish is 33¼ pounds. It took a fish of over 19½ pounds just to finish in the money. There were over 380 entrants in the adult category and 40 in the kids category, most of the ones I talked to caught some smaller fish and everyone said they had a great time and would be back next year.
Steven Johnson caught his grand prize winning catfish on Saturday evening at the mouth of Cache Creek using shrimp for bait.
