1  General Discussion / Off Topic Discussion / Re: Record Heat on: June 10, 2013, 09:09:13 PM
Yeah I hear ya. I will fish all day in 92 but 107 will keep me off the water most every time.
2  General Discussion / Off Topic Discussion / Re: Record Heat on: June 09, 2013, 01:08:50 AM
All the weather services say it only got to 91 in nice today. At what altitude for gods sake? My thermometer said 100 easy. Makes me wonder about the pre cited 84 tomorrow

Yeah  I always use NOAA.gov but the data for my area comes from the Ukiah Airport which is fairly reliable for the valley as a whole. Some other areas for the current conditions it uses the closest weather station which is often not accurate for the area. I find that problem when I check Kelseyville as the closest station is on the top of Konocti, obviously not a reliable indicator. Often it says 20 mph wind with gusts of 50. lol.

I looked at NOAA for Nice and it offers current conditions from what it calls the High Glade Lookout. I searched the coordinates and turns out this is where the data is coming from:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=latitude:+39.208897%3B+Longitude:+-122.809989&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&oe=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ei=4ja0UZr5NYmiiQLMiIHgBA&ved=0CAsQ_AUoAg

I'd say the thermometer at your house is much more accurate for your area. lol.

Yeah I had the swamp cooler going but I let the house get to 84 before I turned it on. The swamp cooler kept the inside at 81 while it was 111 outside today. I guess I should be happy with a 30 degree differential but it sure felt muggy. Funny on days like this I almost wish I was at work! lol.

Good new is now it is 75 outside and I have the windows open.  Thumbs up
4  General Discussion / Off Topic Discussion / Record Heat on: June 08, 2013, 02:20:21 PM
Here it is not even summer yet and we are hit with sweltering heat. As I write this I am hibernating inside as the current temperature is 107 outside and will probably rise 5 more degrees by 3:30 this afternoon. I just wanted to share how miserable this is and complain to everyone. lol.

Hope you all are staying cool!  angryfire
5  Other Close By Lakes / Indian Valley Reservoir / Re: Camping trip on: June 08, 2013, 02:16:40 PM
how much noise do they make?  I would not think a lot but then I haven't been around them.
I'd rather see waves make electricity but windmills are better that burning oil or coal.

As far as I know they are silent. Unlike the large fans they use around Kelseyville for frost control which are rather loud, these fans are driven by the wind and make no noise. I would say a good comparison would be a well oiled windmill. I think the wind farm is a good idea but I don't so much like that the power would be diverted out of the area.
6  General Fishing / Fish Reports Other Than Lake County / Re: BROWN TROUT on: June 07, 2013, 03:43:45 PM
These mentions about the finger lakes got me curious and I was reading some info. Pretty amazing that some of them are as deep as 600 feet.! Don't think my fishfinder could handle that. lol

10  Clear Lake Fishing / Clear Lake Info and Chat / Re: webcam on: May 21, 2013, 10:46:09 PM
Yeah that's a real bummer. I used to rely on that webcam for current lake conditions.

The closest thing I found when I was lookin around last week was this:

http://www.mycal.net/clearlake/

But it isn't a good view at all and must be tucked in a cove as the water never looks rough or anything. Pretty much useless but hey it's something. lol.

I sure hope they get that good webcam back up one day.
11  Clear Lake Fishing / Clear Lake Catfish Derby Chat, Old & New / Re: I WANT A DO OVER on: May 20, 2013, 10:35:51 PM
I hear ya on wanting a do-over snagger. I can think of many things I would have done different.

And as for the wind waves, I had the bright idea to go check out Horseshoe Bend on Friday evening and I swear the waves were 4'! I breached twice and took water over the bow of my little 16' bayliner. I swear my organs hurt from banging on those waves trying to motor through.

I say next year I find one good spot and just stick it out. I ran half up and down the stupid lake this year.  crazy!
12  Clear Lake Fishing / Clear Lake Catfish Derby Chat, Old & New / Re: what was everyones bait of choice for 2013 derby? on: May 20, 2013, 12:34:28 PM
I had a nasty stinky concoction made with big chunks of mackerel soaked in Fire Brine Solution for a week. It stunk to holy hell and all my clothes stink. Crazy thing is the fish didn't touch my Mackeral.  unsure

All my fish were caught on live minnows with my biggest going 14 lbs. I talked to another guy fishing Horseshoe Bend and he said he got bit on livers but his Mackeral didn't get touched.

I have to say Lakeconews is starting to be my go to site for news from that area. I wish some of our local papers did as good of a job. I went to school with Elizabeth Larson and I think she is doing a hell of a job.
14  Clear Lake Fishing / Clear Lake Catfish Derby Chat, Old & New / Re: derby and over 1000# of fish on: May 20, 2013, 12:07:00 AM
Wow great job and excellent report. Sounds like you had the killer spot. Funny thing I think I was anchored next to you last night. And just like you mentioned, I pulled up and scooted back to indian beach around midnight last night. lol. Guess it pays to stick it out as you for sure pulled in an amazing amount of fish.

Funny how that lake works though. I heard other guys say it was really slow for them this year. Go figure......

Sounds like you had a great time out there. Thanks for posting your report. I agree the wind and waves were terrible. I think it was worst than last year. Only the real hardcore fisherman stay out in open water in conditions like that.
