From what I've heard, Holiday Harbor is going out of business. There's rumor that the county might develop it into a park.

Ed's Market has been Marina Market for several years now and has changed hands twice since Ed Ott died. They still sell some bait and tackle but no one that works there knows the difference between a fishing rod and a flag pole. Roll Eyes

I think the county wants it, but I don't think they know why yet.  I think they'd like more control of that area to see that it takes a direction beneficial to the public.

All things considered, I can't say that I blame them...  It's kind of sad to see what a certain type of element can do to an area and the other folks that visit or live (and have retired) there...  angryfire angryfire angryfire I've noticed it more in and around the county-seat towns in some of the rural counties in this state...  My guess is that it has something to do with less cops (than in the cities), more bang for their buck rent-wise and the proximity to the county jail and welfare office. Angry  Come to think of it, I did meet a fellow a while back that used to work for the Lake County Sheriff's Dept. and he did have some interesting stories to tell... Shocked Angry

The good news is that the success of the Florida-strain black bass in Clear lake has brought a few more bucks to town and given the local governments something to enhance, preserve, promote and protect. Let's all wish them luck....   Elmer Fudd!   crazy2 crazy2

The last time that I was in there was in Feb. of 2002 and I remember seeing some clearance/going-out-of-buisness-type signs there that evening. I remember being bummed out after I saw the signs because I thought that the place had a real neat "feel" or character to it...  It was obviously an old store and it had enough of the right kind of fishing tackle to give it that nostalgic "old-timey" bait-shop feel...at least to me. I saw an old-timer behind the counter there that I assumed was "Ed'.  There were a few teenagers there that just seemed to be "hanging out" with him and that left me with a warm feeling too...  There's something to be said for an old-timer that is willing to hang-out with teenagers and for teenagers that are willing to hang out with an old-timer... Thumbs up Thumbs up

I'm sorry to hear that Ed's gone and that the present owners don't know their "stuff" from shinola but at least it wasn't boarded up and the "homeless" haven't burned the place down yet.....unless you guys think that they should and just start over...

Modern convenience stores may have all the latest amenities but they just don't have the same "feel"... Undecided

I've found the current owners to be very helpful and personable.  They have a lot of good tackle that Ed would never have thought of having. I liked Ed's when Ed was there and I like it now.

Thank you for your opinion. I'll be sure to drop in the next time that I'm up that way. Everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt...    By the way, I seem to remember a coffee shop or something similar next door.  Is it still there? Any observations?
