Fished the docks at Konocti with fellow member Vic (Bobber-Boy) and 2 others.  I fished from 6:30am till 11:00am for a big skunk, not even a bite.  Vic and friends were still there when I left.  Hopefully they'll have better luck for the rest of the day and tomorrow.

The area was completely dead with no indications of fish or bait anywhere.  Water was very clear with visibility down to the very bottom.  At least the weather was nice...cold morning but it warmed up nicely when the sun came out.

Hey Norm,  we fished till 10pm last night with nothing to show for it.  Hit the docks early this morning at 4 am an fished till 10 am for nothing.  The water was very clear.  We could even see an orange cone underwater at the end of the dock.

you know i went to the sportsman show this weekend and to my surprise there was a cooler of crappie on ice in the 3-4 lb range, i found the gentleman that was running the tackle booth there, and i said to him "those look like clearlake crappie" he confirmed they were but indicated they were slower this year than that of the past years, he also told me the guy that catches them always brings a cooler into the business for them. now though the reports indicate skunk all over the lake im thinking we need to change a few techniques OR fish are being caught and folks are being hush- hush to avoid fishing jams of the past (you know that secret fishing hole)anyway wanted to let you know they are there, we're just gonna have to show our real skills this year!  "the fishin magician"

Hi fishin magician,

I was there on Friday and I saw the cooler of crappie. I asked the guy running the booth if those Clear Lake crappie were caught recently, his response was "no, they were caught last year". I assume they were frozen last year and thawed for the show. unsure ph34 crazy!

Maybe his reply of last year can be construed as in October/November/December of 2008... only a few months ago.  Huh

They had crappie at the '08 event as well.  I believe I heard the same thing at that time (they were preserved Clear Lake crappie).

Not trying to be hush hush at all.  Just trying to give you the report.  Norm fished with me that weekend.  I'm sure there's crappie in the lake,  Just not at the usual places now.

I couldn't have caught a single crappie that day even if my life depended on it.  woot

Apparently, the disappearance of the shad in the past 2 years have changed the feeding and holding pattern of the crappie.
