I pulled into Redbud parking lot late Sunday night and noticed how sparkly the parking lot was. It looked like 4 trucks on the ramp side and one on the baitshop side had windows blown out. I was the ONLY vehicle in the whole place, so I started rationalizing. Aw, he won't come back. Somebody probably already killed the SOB anyway. Screw it. Let's go fishin'.
I launched into breezy 62 degree water and headed for shelter. I started fishing around midnight Sunday night. Between then and 10AM Monday morning I got a 10, 17, 8, 10, 9, and 18. It was still breezy so I stayed put and got an 8 around noon. You know, these are the best size fish I have seen in a few years. Maybe things are coming back. A couple hours later it started blowing and kicking up a froth, and a little later it settled down again. The weather folks said that would happen, and it did.
Around 5PM I went to the truck. Why is the seat like that? I didn't leave it like that. And lo and behold the SOB got me. Threw a hunk of concrete through the driver window. Flipped down the visors, went through the glove box and console. My papers and CD's on the seat and my TOOL BOX open but still there. Glass everywhere. I made the waste-of -time phone call to the police. I see Todd said all driver windows got it. While I was talking to the I'm-not -sending -anybody-out-dispatcher and she was taking my info, she said, "What window? Did you say driver's?" Well, I hadn't said. Then she said she would mail me a form. I said, "You know, I'm not only one. There is glass all over." She said they knew about it and they were increasing patrols. Oh, now I'll sleep better. I was talking to a local who was born and raised and told him this town has some very nice people and some very bad people. He said he was frustrated by the derelicts who move in and bring their kids with them. His words. Not mine. Another local said the city was laying off more employees and possibly all police, giving it to the county. I guess the parking lot will never get swept, especially if the restrooms are any indication. That building isn't that old and it's trashed. I hear they found a dead guy in one of the rooms. How about Franz, did the windows make the paper, and are you losing the police? I cleaned up the truck, rolled down both windows, unlocked the doors, removed anything worth more than $20 and went back to fishing. I guess that will be my new procedure. Unlock it so they can get in without breaking anything. Maybe clear plastic bags over the windows to keep the dew out, but still let the little SOB see in. You derby folks might want to seriously consider this.

Apparently all they want is meth or cash. That packed parking lot will look like a treasure trove to that SOB.
I better get back on subject or Ed will boot my butt over. So I head out into the dusk, Monday evening, light breeze, water 63 degrees. Between 10 PM and 9:30 AM I got an 8, 4, 5, 11, 4, 12, 9, and 10. All fish lived to tell about it.
You all have a good time at the derby, or what I call the zoo. Weather looks a little iffy and I'm going to sit this one out. I don't want to get shot, drowned, rained on, anchored on top of, yelled at, run into, property damaged again, or skunked.
RIP Ben. It was fun picking on you, but now I will let you rest in peace. Hope you're catching a boat load up there.
