I pulled into Redbud parking lot late Sunday night and noticed how sparkly the parking lot was.  It looked like 4 trucks on the ramp side and one on the baitshop side had windows blown out.  I was the ONLY vehicle in the whole place, so I started rationalizing.  Aw, he won't come back.  Somebody probably  already killed the SOB anyway.  Screw it.  Let's go fishin'.

I launched into breezy 62 degree water and headed for shelter.  I started fishing around midnight Sunday night.  Between then and 10AM Monday morning I got a 10, 17, 8, 10, 9, and 18.  It was still breezy so I stayed put and got an 8 around noon.  You know, these are the best size fish I have seen in a few years.  Maybe things are coming back.  A couple hours later it started blowing and kicking up a froth, and a little later it settled down again.  The weather folks said that would happen, and it did.

Around 5PM I went to the truck.  Why is the seat like that?  I didn't leave it like that.  And lo and behold the SOB got me.  Threw a hunk of concrete through the driver window.  Flipped down the visors, went through the glove box and console.  My papers and CD's on the seat and my TOOL BOX open but still there.  Glass everywhere.  I made the waste-of -time phone call to the police.  I see Todd said all driver windows got it.  While I was talking to the I'm-not -sending -anybody-out-dispatcher and she was taking my info, she said, "What window?  Did you say driver's?"  Well, I hadn't said.  Then she said she would mail me a form.  I said, "You know, I'm not only one. There is glass all over."  She said they knew about it and they were increasing patrols.  Oh, now I'll sleep better.  I was talking to a local who was born and raised and told him this town has some very nice people and some very bad people.  He said he was frustrated by the derelicts who move in and bring their kids with them.  His words.  Not mine.  Another local said the city was laying off more employees and possibly all police, giving it to the county.  I guess the parking lot will never get swept, especially if the restrooms are any indication.  That building isn't that old and it's trashed.  I hear they found a dead guy in one of the rooms.  How about Franz, did the windows make the paper, and are you losing the police?  I cleaned up the truck, rolled down both windows, unlocked the doors, removed anything worth more  than $20 and went back to fishing.  I guess that will be my new procedure.  Unlock it so they can get in without breaking  anything.  Maybe  clear plastic bags over the windows to keep the dew out, but still let the little SOB see in.  You derby folks  might want to seriously consider this.   unsure Apparently all they want is meth or cash.  That packed parking lot will look like a treasure trove to that SOB.

I better get back on subject or Ed will boot my butt over.  So I head out into the dusk, Monday evening, light breeze, water 63 degrees.  Between 10 PM and  9:30 AM I got an 8, 4, 5, 11, 4, 12, 9, and 10.  All fish lived to tell about it.

You all have a good time at the derby, or what I call the zoo.  Weather looks a little iffy and  I'm going to sit this one out.  I don't want to get shot, drowned, rained on, anchored on top of, yelled at, run into, property damaged again, or skunked.

RIP Ben.  It was fun picking on you, but now  I will let you rest in peace.  Hope you're catching a boat load up there.

Dude, that sucks about your tow rig.  What is the Redbud Launch coming to?  Guess I'll bring a bag and put all my registration and other private info for my truck, and keep it all in my boat derby weekend.  I'll also bring some clear plastic & duc tape incase I have to drive home in the rain on Sunday with a broken window.  Maybe even a post it note on the inside of each window before I launch indicating there are no valuables inside and to move on. Tongue

Glad you got into some fish for all your troubles.

Lets hook up this summer and fish for a night or two.

Sad to hear about the vandalism/theft Everett.

CLPD was reduced by 1/3 and their attitude reflects that.

My place is well lit at night, but there has been an increase in early morning activity as the weather warms up.

I do a lot of work from my workshop in the wee morning hours and have witnessed several suspicious characters walk by my gates every single night... no street lights in my area... rural... no stores... only Borax Lake, which name indicates there is no fish to be caught... etc., etc. etc., so why would anyone be walking around 3 miles from town in an area with pretty much total darkness that has more wild life than residents?

There has been some really odd folks hanging around there lately, or maybe I am noticing it more as I am finding myself out there more then I used to be. Could just be the weather, as they all seem to have bicycles. For some reason, they all want to come talk to me and can't keep a coherant conversation going while they ask if I have any smokes. They just tend to get me  angryfire

KnotGillty, while that is a great idea to bring the plastic and tape... I would take everything outta the cab and roll the windows down and plastic them up when I got there. Might make them believe the rig was broken into already and everything of value is gone. Wouldn't be a bad idea to take a distributor wire or disconnect the battery as I have head of a few vehicle thefts in town.

If it looks empty and broken into already, they probably won't go in it. If it won't start right away when they try to steal it, they will move on to the next vehicle. The would damage the collum most likley, but you would still have your rig.

What a town, and now I am rambling on.....

Are there other launch facilities around the lake with less dirtballs?
Shoot it would be worth paying a fee to launch somewhere if your truck is actually in a safer, patrolled parking lot....even if you have to drive your boat down to the south end from up North or West.

Man Catman, you were into some good action. Congrats!

So did you use mackeral?

It would be worth it for CLOGBA in future years reduce that prize of $4k down to $3k and hire a security company to patrol that parking lot during their derby so people will still come and not stay home due to dirtballs like this. Maybe they can hire one of the laid off cops.

Very sorry to here about your broken window. I park at Redbud all the time for years and never had problems, but im gonna keep the doors unlocked, windows down, tape em up, and remove all valuables next time. Dont let it discurage you, the fishing is too good. LOL!!!  Every town has got a few bad apples in it. Clearlake is a great place and is just going through some tough times like everyone else is. Its a good thing you caught a lot of fish, thats makes it a little better?

I keep anything of importance in a bag in my boat for the whole derby, nothing of value or records of any kind.I also have very little gas in my vehicle when I park at boat ramps. Its sad to see people tearing up the boat ramps and such hopefully they will put in cameras since were short on police !!!
