My neighbor decided to go fishing yesterday despite the cool temps and the gusty winds.  He actually had a pretty good day. Posted is a picture of some of the perch he caught on his trip.  He was fishing from the bank and told me that he missed several more nice fish trying to lift them up after hooking them

I believe it is safe to assume someone will be having an excellent fish fry!  knifefork

Delta perch is not the real name it only refers to where they were caught.  The real name for these fish is red-ear sunfish,  Some people call them blue gill, but they grow much larger than blue gill and they seem to prefer the colder water time of year to bite.  You can catch them all year round in the delta, but the fall and winter is when I seem to catch the larger fish.  I have seen these fish as large as sea perch come out of the delta.  I don't know the weight on the fish in the picture, but they were nice ones.  There were some caught larger than the ones in the picture, but I don't have any pictures of those.

Tight Lines,

Okay if they are Red Ears, then I know the size range. I saw an old fart like me catch  one about 2 to 2 1/2 lbs in Rodman Slough be morning. He called us over and we were amazed. None of us knew what it was. We could tell it wasn't a blue gill. I didn't figure it t for three years until Ed mentioned Red Ears on this frum.
