In the next couple of weeks I'm going to replace or lengthen the tongue on my mini boat trailer project. It's all done except for the tongue which is just too darn short. Can't car top my canoe anymore do to my back.  angryfire

Does anybody have any recommendations for a metal/machine shop that is trust worthy? Perhaps a boat/trailer shop could do it also. I'll probably just buy the tube and have it cut to length and holes drilled and install it myself unless they can do the whole job at a good price. May consider a lengthening if that turns out to be a good option.

Would prefer someone in Lake County but would be willing to drive to Mendocino County too. Like I said it's a mini trailer that won't carry much weight but it will have to pass a CHP inspection.  Grin Thanks.

Not sure on a good machine shop. It's been several years since I used one and it was for engine work.

Funny I yanked a trailer extension off a trailer I bought a few months ago. Not sure what your mini trailer looks like but it made me wonder if what I have would work.

Check out www.harborfreight.com

I was at the Santa Rosa store Thursday to purchase another portable generator for my daughter, who just got her own place, but the line was too long (> 15 customers), and we were pressed for time, so when I we arrived home later that night... went online... ordered the generator with $40 off coupon... flat rate shipping to your door $6.99. Heck, I spent $23 on gas just going to Santa Rosa and back!  crazy!

While in the store I looked at the utility trailers on display. They have a nice selection of trailer parts that could suit your needs.

I appreciate you asking and taking the time to post a pic.  Thumbs up But not what I'm looking at. Bellow is a pic of the base trailer I'm working with from Harbor Freight. The bed area is only 40"x48". Mini.  Grin Going to add a single 2"x2" tube to add 5' 6" in length to the tongue.

I just redesigned my TEE NEE Trailer tongue to lengthen it and had Jay Snider weld it up in Kelseyville and Snider Speed Shop on Gaddy Lane. If you are interested I'll PM the number.

Sure, send it. If you don't mind me asking. Was it pretty reasonable? Sounds like he knows what he is doing. Thanks.

There was a device made in the 80s the you could modify and make the tongue an adjustable length. I had just met my current wife and she was the Art Designer of a publication called Fin and Feathers - a hunting and fishing Magazine. She was recently divorced and because she was dating a quadriplegic she was the talk of the magazine crowd.

I had a Motortrike built with a 40 engine on it and need a trailer with a longer tongue so I could back up better. She of course was the only one who knew this.

We went out to lunch with the crew one day so they could get to know me. Everyone was very quiet and I was filling in the gaps in conversation. She was studying the ads she laid out.  Suddenly she noticed the ad in the paper for the adjustable tongue and blurted out, "THIS is what you need Greg. A tongue extender."

You coulda heard a pin drop.
