Mary and I decided to give M & M Campground a try for carp today since winter is almost here so we might as well get in some fishing while we still can. We arrived at about 10:00 am and the action started around 11:00 am. We were fishing with two rods each, one rigged with a bolt rig baited with prepared maize and the other set up with just a hook tied to the end of the line baited with a strawberry doughball. I had good action all day long catching a total of 13 carp. Here's a list of their weights in the order they were caught: 15, 11, 8, 11, 12, 22, 8, 12, 16, 13, 5, 10 and 14 lbs. To be honest, I just estimated most of the weights but I was very consevative in my estimates. My 22 lb'er, my biggest this year, I weighed on a digital scale and it actually went a bit over 22 lbs. I caught 4 of the carp with my freelining rig using 8 lb. Power Pro braided line, including the 22 lb'er. The rest were on the bolt rig baited with prepared maize. Mary did not have a very good day, she only caught 3 carp weighing 9, 7 and 5 lbs. She caught all of them with her freelining rig.
Mary and I are going back to M & M tomorrow with "Carper
Rick", a friend of ours from Rohnert Park. Mary says she will
kick my "you know what" tomorrow.
Mary and I joined Carper Rick from Rohnert Park for a day of carp fishing at M & M. The weather wasn't nearly as nice as the day before. It was cool and quite windy. Mary and I only caught 2 carp each but Rick hooked up with around 16 carp and landed 12 weighing from around 8 lbs to 16 lbs. He started hooking up within 15 minutes of our arrival and didn't let up all day. He's a heck of a carp angler. I wonder how many he would have caught if he had been with Mary and I on Friday when they were biting so well. |
