The fishing has improved a little compared to last week but it's
still fair at best.
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks
707-998-1006 says the north end of the lake is giving up some good
catches with plastic frogs worked over the few remaining weed patches
in the Rocky Point to Lakeport Area.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports lots of
limits for anglers using live jumbo minnows and 2 or 3 fish per
person for those tossing crankbaits and pig-n-jigs. Most of the bass
are being caught in shallow water around rocks and docks. They are
running from 2½ to 5 pounds with an occasional 7 or 8 pounder.

gauge, 7.56 is considered "full pool".

The fishing is improving steadily as the late fall pattern takes hold.
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks reports
easy limits for anglers using live jumbo minnows and 4 or 5 fish per
day for lure fishermen. The top lures are Senkos and blue/black
colored crankbaits fished anywhere from 2 to 14 feet. The fish are
averaging 3 to 5 pounds each with a few larger ones to 8 pounds.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says fishermen
using live jumbo minnows are having a ball catching and releasing up
to 20 fish per day. Brad suggests fishing rocky areas in 10 to 12
feet of water in the south end and docks in 3 to 4 feet in the north
end. Anglers throwing crankbaits and Brush Hogs are managing 4 or 5
fish per day.

I just found out the lake level reports I have
been posting have been wrong for at least the past month. The gauge
they use is apparently inoperative, the actual level is around 0.80
feet on the rumsey gauge. I'm sorry about that....Ed.

The bass fishing is red hot for those using live jumbo minnows and
fair for the lure fishermen.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says most anglers
using live jumbo minnows are catching and releasing upwards of 20
bass from 3 to 5 pounds for 2 or 3 hours of fishing. Lure tossers are
managing 5 or 6 fish per day throwing crankbaits and jigs. In the
south end of the lake both live bait and lure fishermen are catching
most of their fish on rocks in 8 to 10 feet of water while in the
north end of the lake the ends of docks with 2 to 4 feet of water are
producing most of the action.

1.01 feet on the Rumsey gauge according to the Lake County Record Bee.

The bass fishing is a little tougher than last week for lure
fishermen but still decent for live minnow users.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says most anglers
using live jumbo minnows are catching at least 5 bass per trip but
lure fishermen are struggling to catch 2 or 3. The pattern is about
the same as last week with the south end of the lake producing in
rocky areas in 8 to 10 feet of water and the ends of docks in 2 to 4
feet of water are your best bet in the north end. The top lures have
been crankbaits and pig-n-jigs with a few fish being taken on
jerkbaits. Most of the fish are running from 2½ to 5 pounds.

level was at 1.11 feet on the Rumsey Gauge.

We are solidly into the winter pattern now so you have to move around
a lot until you locate a school of bass, when and if you do the
action is pretty good with jumbo minnows but still tough with artificials.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says most bassers
fishing the south end of the lake are locating the fish in rocky
areas in 10 to 15 feet of water. Fishermen using live jumbo minnows
are catching at least 5 or 6 fish per person while the ones using
artificials are catching only 2 or 3 fish. The fish are running
around 2½ to 4 pounds with an occasional 5 or 6 pounder. In the
north end of the lake the ends of docks in 4 or more feet of water
are still the best producers but you have to cover a lot of areas to
find a concentration of fish.

The lake level is rising slightly and is at 1.45
feet on the Rumsey Gauge.
