It's improving a little but the best is yet to come when we get into
the fall pattern.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports fair
action with Zipper Worms and Senkos for fish running 2½ to 4
pounds. Dark colored plastic frogs worked over weed mats are
accounting for a few in the afternoon. Most bassers are catching 4 or
5 fish per day. One lucky angler caught a 10 pound 6 ounce bass with
a 10 inch Berkely Power Worm on a rock reef somewhere in the south
end of the lake.
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks suggests
fishing rock reefs and deep water docks in 8 to 20 feet of water with
Senkos and Dead Ringers for bass ranging from 2 to 3 pounds. Bob
confirms the afternoon frog bite on the weed mats and adds that the
best times have been from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

The bass fishing is getting better with most anglers catching 5 or
more fish per outing.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports good
catches with plastic frogs over weeds in 8 to 10 feet of water and
fair action with Brush Hogs and Senkos around rocky areas in 10 to 15
feet of water. The fish are running around 3 to 4 pounds with quite a
few 5 to 8 pounders as well. Brad adds that they are catching some
large crappie over deep water rocks and under deeper docks with
minnows and jigs.
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks says
most everyone is boating at least 6 to 8 fish per outing with frogs
and buzzbaits fished over weed beds and Senkos, Dead Ringers and
crankbaits fished over rock reefs in 10 to 15 feet of water. There
have been quite a few larger bass running 6 to 8 pounds caught and RC
Stephens of Clearlake Oaks caught an 11 pound 4 ouncer with a plastic
frog worked over weeds.

The bass fishing is about the same as it was last week with most of
the action being in the southern arms of the lake due to the low lake level.
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks says
most bassers are catching 5 or 6 fish for a day's effort. The fish
are averaging around 3 to 4 pounds with a few larger ones including
two 9 pound 6 ouncers. Bob suggests fishing frogs and buzzbaits over
shallow weeds and spinner baits, Senkos and Dead Ringer worms over
rocky areas in 10 to 20 feet of water.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says most of the
fish are being caught in 2 to 4 feet of water with slow moving
topwaters such as frogs and Zara Spooks or with Baby Brush Hogs
fished on bottom. Most fish are running 2 to 3 pounds and most
anglers are catching 4 to 6 fish for an all day effort.
There's not much to report in the north end due to the low lake
level. They are catching lots of undersized fish from around 6 to 11
inches but very few keepers.

The topwater bite has slowed down due to the cooler weather. Most of
the action is with plastics and crankbaits in the south end of the lake.
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks says
crankbaits and Senkos worked over rocky areas in 4 to 8 feet of water
are accounting for most of the action and the fish are averaging
around 3 pounds.
Brad Farrin of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports good
catches with live jumbo minnows, Brush Hogs and Senkos fished around
rocks and docks in 3 to 7 feet of water. Brad says the fish are
running 2 to 4 pounds with quite a few 5's and 6's being caught as
well especially on jumbo minnows.
